Website Basics

A website needs the following things to work:

A Reason

Before we can build you a website its important that you know why you want one, ask yourself the following questions and write them down, they will be very useful to us when we come to build your website.

Content

People will visit your web site because the content that you have on there is of value to them.  “Content is king” is a famous saying in the web design world; design, usability, accesibility etc. are all very important but not as important as content.

We expect you to provide your own content (writing, pictures etc.), you know your business and what you want to say about it.

We design and build our websites around your content.  So at the beginning of the project we need to have and idea of what that content is going to be.

A Domain Name

This is the URL or web address of your website (e.g our “domain name” is “edgedesigns.org”)

We don’t sell domain names because they are already cheap and easy to buy.  We can help you come up with good one though.

If you want to buy a domain name then go to simply.com, they make it nice and easy. If you do need help finding the right on or can’t decide what to get then we are happy to offer advice as part of the project.

Web Hosting

The domain name is called a web address for good reason because it is really the address of the server that your website is stored on. so when you buy a domain name you also need to rent somewhere for you website to be stored.

We offer web hosting and will happily host your website for you, we manage everything ourselves so that you don’t have to have anything to do with it.  We charge by the month or year.

If you want to host the website somewhere else then we like Dreamhost.

This is the bit that we love, we take all the information that you give us and we work with you to first design and then build you a website that fits your business needs perfectly.
